Nationwide Teachers Strike Kicks Off On Thursday

The nationwide teachers strike is set to kick off on Thursday according to an official statement released by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
The teachers strike is set to disrupt the opening of schools which had been set to take place on the third of January by the Ministry of Education given that most of the teachers are members of KNUT.
The New Year school calendar was to initially start von second of January but the ministry pushed forward by a day to give time to ‘parents and students to travel.’
There have been efforts by the Ministry of Labour to try and find an amicable solution between KNUT and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) but the talks seem to have failed.
On Wednesday, officials from the teachers’ employer, TSC, failed to show up for a scheduled meeting at Labor offices, infuriating the KNUT officials who through the Secretary-General Wilson Sossion, announced that the strike was still intact.
KNUT has also directed on its members who are among the more than 3,000 who had been transferred to new stations not to report while calling on TSC to revert the decision with ‘immediate effect.’
